Hi! I'm Stef Bootwala
I'm a North Jersey native, a mother, an HR professional, a community organizer, a renter, a social butterfly, a natural leader, and a Progressive Democrat running to represent the third ward of Bloomfield. In my paid work and in my activism, I get big ideas, I am solutions-oriented, organized, and empathetic, I welcome and implement feedback, and I manage processes and lead teams to execute effectively and efficiently. I have a versatile background in theater arts, childcare, education, event planning and now on my 8th year in Human Resources. I'm an HR Generalist at a social justice non-profit, where I specialize in the creation and application of policies, equity and inclusion efforts, compliance, performance accountability, staffing, and budget management. My strengths are in communication, project management, public speaking, and navigating conflict. I am continuously learning and applying anti-racist praxis in my professional and personal worlds, building awareness around my privilege, and using my voice to amplify others. I have been settled in Bloomfield for over three years and I am inspired to apply my skills to be a bold, energetic, effective civil servant to strengthen our community and build a better Bloomfield.

My Priorities
-
Audit township budget and develop criteria for evaluating vendor performance
-
Vote NO on any new PILOT tax-break programs for developers
-
Ensure transparency for residents in new plans for existing eye-sores (71 Locust, the boarded up schools on Franklin Street, former Powerhouse Gym, etc.)
-
Investigate the township's handling of firefighter Patrick Thomas' discrimination report
-
Bring township attention to flooding issues, especially around Watsessing Park
-
Assess current DPW (Department of Public Works) strategies to ensure all residents receive prompt and thorough snow and waste removal
-
Expand parking options near the town center and train station and improve traffic flow, especially at the Watsessing Ave and Bloomfield Ave intersection
-
Establish collaborative workstreams between the town council and town committees, as well as the Zoning Board, Planning Board, and Board of Education to better evaluate and forecast budget and access needs
